Recent Work

My research focuses on enabling simulation based design. Aerospace systems are complex and subject to uncertainties in the modeling, physics, parameters and operating conditions. Enabling simulation based design requires the simulations to properly quantify the effect of all the uncertainties, which requires many accurate simulations. In practice, there are different simulations models that can be used to model an aerospace system. These models can be classified as "high-fidelity" (accurate, high computational cost) and "low-fidelity" (less accurate, low computational cost). In my research, I obtain accurate quantification of the uncertainties at a lower computational cost by effectively combining a few high-fidelity simulations with a large number of low-fidelity simulations. These multi-fidelity uncertainty quantification methods have been applied to the interaction of an uncertain gust with a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine and to an aeroelastic airfoil with uncertain structural parameters.
